Recently there has been a spate of movie adaptations of books.  Some of these books are old and well loved and some are recent big hitters that seem to get the now almost guaranteed Hollywood treatment.  So, I was thinking, “I read a lot, I’ve read some great books that would make better movies than The Da Vinci Code.”  So I thought I’d post them and how I’d envision them being made.

The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse by Robert Rankin

I’m seeing this as a live action movie, with animated parts or even puppets, similar to the recent Hithchiker’s Guide movie.  Sort of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” but actually good. ;)  I’d have the guys that made the Hitchhiker’s flick put this one together.

Ice Station by Matt Reilly

This is a non-stop, action filled fest of all that is great about hollywood action movies.  I’ve read that the rights to this have been bought for movie purposes, but heard nothing else.  This really is a must make, there are scenes here so well written, that its very much like watching a movie in your head.  I’d heard people complaining about Reilly’s style, but I love it.  Highly recommended read that would make a great action flick.  I’d want someone who wasn’t Michael Bay to do the directing duties, someone who was capable of creating an action flick that doesn’t solely rely on things being blown up.

The Rising by Brian Keene

An obvious pick to horror fans.  One of the best zombie novels ever written deserves to be made into a movie.  Zombie movies have had a resurgence since 28 Days Later and we’ve been seeing a steady trickle of zombie flicks, but few of them are any good.  The last I saw that was worth watching was George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead which was a nice surprise.

One Rainy Night by Richard Laymon

Somebody needs to make a Richard Laymon movie.  And they need to do it soon and they need to do it right.  And here is a great novel to start with.  Sure, I could’ve picked Island or After Midnight, but to me One Rainy Night has everything a good horror flick needs!  I’d like Danny Boyle to helm this project!

That’ll do it for now, but I plan on making this a series of blog posts, where I list other books I’d like to see made into a movie!
