The Gate of Air by James Buchan

Trailing a modern novel as a ghost story sets up some tangible expectations. There will be a haunted house, of course, an unexplained death or two, and a cast of potential witnesses to remain infuriatingly tight-lipped about events.

James Buchan’s seventh novel offers an unusual take on the ghost-story conventions, but then his is no ordinary ghost.
