SF author John Scalzi told SCI FI Wire that his latest project is not a new novel, but a new shared universe anthology–called METAtropolis–and it’s available only as an audiobook.

“I wasn’t interested in doing just another anthology in which someone thought up a topic and then everyone wrote on the topic,” Scalzi said in an interview. “I thought … more interesting would be to assemble a group of writers and have them do communal world-building–and having done that, then go off and write their stories individually. That way you get the best of both a group collaboration and individual effort.”
