“The hatching is coming.” By definition, an invasion is an external event; an unwanted intrusion of the stranger or the strange that disrupts the peaceful flow of the everyday. Not so in Infected. Literally triangulating their conquest from microcosm to explosive release through the flesh of increasingly self-destructive hosts into the world, these unidentified but constantly evolving aliens turn the process on its head. Taking place largely in the apartment of one defiant if deranged ‘vector’ and culminating with a military assault on, of all places, Wahjamega, MI, ‘Infected’ reads like “War of the Worlds” for those who’ve read the Merck Manual a few too many times.
